The Health, Safety and Environment Technician Apprenticeship is an 18-month programme combining on the job learning with academic study. The purpose is to equip learners with the competencies you need to operate successfully and safely in your role. You'll get the opportunity to develop the safety-related skills and knowledge to fully contribute to a H&S team and gain a solid foundation for career progression.

The role involves driving strategy to build an engaging, safe, environment and identify, coordinate and drive improvements in safety while engaging operational and other support function stakeholders.

You'll study a broad range of safety-related topics, you can practically apply and gain exposure to in your day-to-day role. For example, providing advice on statutory health, safety and environmental requirements that can affect the operation. You'll assist the management team in ensuring the legal and company requirements are implemented. Apprentices explore how to assist in the development, review and implementation of safe systems of work, investigate incidents, analyse data and present findings to the management team. You'll develop skills and behaviours that will support in influencing others, to see the benefit of working responsibly, understanding the legal framework and showing how safety, health and environmental management can enhance operational activities.

You will also obtain a nationally recognised qualification as a Safety, Health & Environmental technician. Post-apprenticeship, you'll be eligible to join the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment at affiliate level.

I believe that taking the decision to apply for this programme changed my life. I was looking to improve my English and also my confidence, as a lot of my colleagues and even my manager were telling me that I was doing great in my role but I needed this little bit of extra confidence to believe in myself.
