Lottie here! I’m back again reporting the unforgettable International Women’s Day event!
Today was an extraordinary day buzzing with excitement and empowerment! Our team orchestrated a remarkable event at one of our UK Fulfilment Centres, MAN3, dedicated to celebrating the remarkable women in Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME), and inspiring the next generation of engineers like me.
The event brought together 50 incredible women from various stages of their engineering careers and 50 bright engineering students from local colleges. It was an exciting blend of experience and aspiration, all coming together in our site in Bolton. A special mention goes to our RME women who travelled all the way from Spain to join us! Their presence added an extra layer of camaraderie and international flair to the occasion.
The day kicked off with an inspiring welcome address from the phenomenal Emma Swinscoe, sharing her journey to becoming an RME manager; It was a powerful reminder of what women can achieve in the world of engineering. Then came the engaging problem-solving activities, team-building exercises, and the innovative engineering workshop facilitated by Tricia Fleming Lynch, a… (more info tbc)
Tiffany Dawson led an empowering workshop on confidence and careers, addressing the challenges of imposter syndrome that many face. Her insights provided valuable strategies to overcome self-doubt and thrive in a field where women may sometimes feel like outliers.
As the day drew to a close, Sinead Lemon MIET, (more info), led a soothing mindfulness yoga session, allowing us to unwind and reflect on the incredible experiences we shared throughout the day. It was a moment of tranquillity amidst the whirlwind of inspiration and learning.
Reflecting on the day’s events, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and excitement (for our future engineers!). As someone who represents women in STEM, I had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the passion, determination, and sisterhood that permeated every aspect of the event.
