As a Software Tester Apprentice, you'll have the chance to play a pivotal role in the development and deployment of cutting-edge software solutions. You'll work alongside our seasoned team of testing experts, learning to hone your skills in manual and automated testing, defect management, and risk mitigation. You'll also cultivate critical communication and collaboration skills, serving as a bridge between development teams, business stakeholders, and end-users. You'll learn to translate complex technical information into actionable insights, effectively reporting on test progress and defects to drive continuous improvement.

Required skills and qualifications

For the apprenticeship programme we prioritise applicants eligible to government funding for their apprenticeship and for this you need to:

  • Be 18 years or over before the start date
  • Have the right to live and work in the country where the role is located (if you are on a visa, this needs to enable you to legally work and reside in the country where the role is located, for the entire duration of the programme).
  • Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years
  • Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme
  • Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending July 2025 or later
  • Have 5 GCSEs Grade C/ 4 or above including Maths and English.
  • Have an A Level in STEM subject, or BTEC Diploma in STEM subject, or Level 3 IT apprenticeship

PLEASE NOTE: This position is a 24 month fixed-term contract.

You must NOT already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship

What are the core components of this apprenticeship?

During your apprenticeship, you will acquire valuable skills and knowledge, including:

Software Development Lifecycle: You'll develop a deep understanding of the SDLC, mastering various phases and methodologies
Requirements Analysis: You'll learn to identify and analyse requirements needed for comprehensive testing strategies
Test Planning & Execution: You'll design and execute diverse test scenarios, including functional, non-functional, and change-related testing
Communication Skills: Must demonstrate excellent communication abilities to serve as an effective bridge between development teams, business stakeholders, and end-users
Technical Innovation: You'll work with cutting-edge testing tools and methodologies, pushing boundaries in quality assurance
Automation Expertise: You'll identify and implement automation opportunities for repetitive tasks and security testing procedures

What will I learn as I progress through my course?

  • Developing an understanding of the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment
  • Analysing software and systems to proactively identify and mitigate potential risk and issues
  • Participating in the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment process
  • Conduct both manual and automated tests to ensure the software created by developers is fit for purpose and free from any bugs before it reaches end-users
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to log defects, provide regular updates, and drive continuous improvement.

Your journey as a Software Testing Apprentice opens the door to a world of exciting career prospects. You'll have the skills and knowledge to progress towards various testing and quality assurance roles in the Technology sector including but not limited to:

Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer; Test Automation Engineer; Performance Test Engineer; Security Test Engineer

Successful apprentices may also choose to progress on to a higher level qualification or vocationally related programmes.

Video Interview
Video interview to tell us about your background, motivations, knowledge, skills and interests
Virtual / Onsite Assessment Centre
Assessment centres include: a group exercise, presentation and individual interviews

(Assessment centres for this role are expected to take place between Feb - May 2025)
Offer
If successful we will extend you an offer to join our programmes and our recruitment teams will send you a contract of employment
Onboarding process
Our recruitment teams will complete the necessary background checks, register you with the programme training provider and obtain any personal information needed to begin your employment
Start
You'll then be ready to join us on your Apprenticeship programme
